Building Surveyor

Jessica Dahya

I started my career as an interior designer, yet wanted a role where I could continually learn and grow. This led me to building surveying. I worked as a trainee building surveyor in the UK and loved the diversity and the balance between being in the office and out on site. It’s a profession where there’s always new challenges and more to learn, which appeals to me.

In the UK I was involved in primary school refurbishments through to university maintenance schemes, which gave me good exposure to remedial, refurbishment and design works. I also elevated my technical and design expertise through further developing my CAD skills. At Maynard Marks I’m involved in the full range of building surveying services, supporting our senior building surveyors with insurance related work, condition surveys, CAD drawings for remedial schemes and site plans, maintenance planning and QA site observations. I’ve worked on commercial, industrial, heritage and education buildings.

You will find me personable and relatable. I focus on building rapport and long-term relationships. I ask questions to understand the basic principles and take initiative. I enjoy being part of the Maynard Marks family where I both have the support needed to grow and am encouraged to learn new things.

As a young professional working in a technical role, I derive a strong sense of fulfilment and confidence from my job. In line with my belief in equal opportunities, I am motivated to inspire and encourage more young people, especially women, to consider the construction industry as a viable career path, because I believe that investing in yourself and joining the sector can lead to a highly rewarding and successful career.
