John RennieWith over 30 years in the profession, John boasts a wealth of expertise in detail design across all aspects of construction, both in the UK and here in New Zealand. His specialist areas of work recently have been insurance reinstatement, conservation, condition surveys and associated repairs and maintenance, and remediation design, building on the skillset he obtained through restoration and conversion projects in the UK.

John’s role involves him being actively involved from concept design through to contract documentation and subsequent administration, for a number of remediation projects. John brings a ‘back to basics’ approach to detailing, in order to ensure Code Compliance while retaining and improving the existing aesthetic value and architectural form. As part of the process John coordinates all of the necessary Council consents, prepares all tender documentation, develops detailed work scopes, and manages the tender process.

In addition to his design focus, John has developed specialist Building Surveying skills by undertaking weathertightness investigations and producing detailed evidential reports for private clients. John’s background in design allows him to focus on Building Code Compliance and readily identify non-compliance issues.

John and his family relocated to New Zealand in 2004 where he managed an architectural service bureau for 6 years, providing specialist architectural documentation support services to various architectural consultants around New Zealand. This role involved the preparation of detailed construction documentation, over a broad range of residential, commercial and institutional projects. These projects ranged from “leaky building” remediation, new build multi storey apartment complexes, new educational buildings and also the surveying and subsequent production of historic record drawings for The Historic Places Trust.

John’s career commenced in 1989, as an apprentice Architectural Technician. Having worked for both a national construction company and a small rural Architects practice in the UK, he developed extensive experience across all sectors of the UK construction industry, including historic building redevelopments, large scale residential developments, low & high rise buildings, schools, commercial accommodation and retail outlets.
