Enhancing performance across this expansive social housing portfolio

Our work formed part of Kāinga Ora’s national Retrofit Programme, focused on upgrading existing homes to improve comfort, health, and energy performance. Through considered interventions, homes were enhanced with improved insulation, upgraded glazing, better ventilation, and modern heating solutions. Internal layouts were reconfigured where required, alongside kitchen, bathroom, and accessibility improvements. These upgrades brought homes closer to current standards while extending their lifespan and supporting better outcomes for tenants.

We delivered a full end-to-end service across the programme, beginning with detailed surveys to assess upgrade requirements and prepare accurate as-built documentation, providing a reliable foundation for efficient design development. Designs were progressed in line with Kāinga Ora standards, from concept through to detailed design and building consent via Consentium, ensuring consistency and compliance across the portfolio.

We coordinated specialist inputs, including structural and asbestos consultants, to streamline delivery and manage risk. Our proactive support during procurement and construction helped address contractor queries early and maintain programme momentum. Through site observations and completion inspections, we supported quality outcomes and ensured the upgrades met intended performance and durability expectations.
