Return to all projectsThe project:
The brief was to provide a further covered area for students and create a facility in which to host functions for the local community.
This project was funded by the Ministry of Education’s School Investment Package (SIP). Our role involved arranging financial approval from MOE for a significant amount of board funding, procuring the project consultants, managing the design process procuring of the main contractor, and project managing the delivery of the works.
Our value add:
Just one month after construction began on this project, Auckland’s Level 4 Covid lockdown came into force, halting development for four weeks. Post-lockdown, we worked hard to get the project back on track, implementing weekly PCG catch ups via Microsoft Teams and almost daily phone updates about the status of production and materials shortages. This enabled the project team to make quick decisions about substitutes and different installation methodologies to avoid lengthy delays.
In conjunction with the main contractor, we carefully scheduled noisy works for after school hours or at the weekends to avoid disruption to students, particularly given many were sitting end-of-year NCEA examinations. We carefully planned the programme and communicated regularly with the school to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, students and visitors to the school.
As a result of adverse weather conditions during the lockdown, the pile foundations were compromised, requiring some remedial work. Despite this, and some delays to the supply of various materials, the team successfully completed the pavilion before the start of Term 1 of the school year and under budget.
